What affects the price

  • Size of the area. Small rooms cost more per square foot, because set-up, cuts and details don't shrink with the room.
  • Tile size and type. Large-format, very small mosaics and natural stone take more time than standard 12×24 porcelain.
  • Pattern. Herringbone, chevron, diagonal and book-matched layouts mean more cutting and planning.
  • Condition of walls and floor. Uneven floors, out-of-plumb walls or damaged subfloors need correcting before tile.
  • Waterproofing scope. A full shower system with niches, a bench and a linear drain is more work than a simple tub surround.
  • Demolition. Removing old tile, mortar beds and board, plus disposal.
  • Details. Niches, benches, mitred corners, trims and borders.
  • Access. Condo elevator bookings, parking and work-hour limits add time.

Why tile quotes vary so much

Two quotes for the same bathroom can be thousands apart. The difference is usually in what's included: preparation, levelling, a real waterproofing membrane, trims and the time spent on layout. A low price often means one of those steps is skipped. Ask every installer exactly which waterproofing system they use and what preparation is included.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Are materials included in these prices?

No. These are labour prices. Tile and installation materials are listed separately on your quote, and you're welcome to buy your own tile from any showroom.

Is HST included?

No, prices are before HST.

Why is a shower priced so much higher per square foot than a floor?

A shower includes demolition, board, a sloped floor, the drain, the KERDI membrane and many more cuts and details. The waterproofing alone is a large part of the work.

Do you charge for quotes?

No. Quotes are free and without obligation.
